About
Floral Farms is a small community tucked away in southern Dallas along the 310 corridor. So took away that, for two years a humongous pile of crushed up asphalt shingles began polluting their community. The residents and their livestock were suffering from the fiberglass being released into the air. The pile began to grow so large it became known as Shingle Mountain.
Through our partnership with Southern Sector Rising, the advocacy for the Floral Farms community has proved to be one of the first local examples of Neighborhood Self Defense & Environmental Justice success. Over the span of six years together, we were able to have Shingle Mountain declared illegal and thus cleaned, create a neighborhood plan for a community park, and effectively rezone The community of Floral Farms to agriculture to prevent industrial encroachment. Our work in floral farms has informed how we use our power.
